Looking for the perfect Bible verses to hang in your little boy’s room? A while back I wrote a post on 3 Verses for Every Little Girl’s Room and I promised a counterpart for little boys. As well, I’m a mom of a little boy and so I am gaining a deeper sense of how precious and unique the high calling of raising tomorrow’s men is.
We live in a world that demeans godly manhood and godly womanhood. As a result our culture can sometimes have a skewed version of God’s best in this area. So I pray these verses are edifying to each little man who looks at them as they hang on the walls of his room.
- Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9 (NIV)
This is one of my favorite verses. Obviously, it applies to everyone who follows Christ. Yet, it is also a powerful reminder for young boys that they are to be strong and courageous. And not the world’s idea of strong. But strong in spirit. Strong in the Lord. Strong in faith. Also, not the world’s idea of courage. Courage that doesn’t come from one’s self, but from the Holy Spirit of God. It is God being with our little boys as they go from children to men that empowers them to possess godly courage.
- And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. Luke 2:40 (KJV)
This particular verse hangs in my son’s room. If you’re not familiar with this verse it comes from Luke 2, part of the infancy gospel. So these words are about Christ. And in Christ, this can be the heart’s cry we have to God on behalf of our boys. We can and should pray for our boys to wax strong in spirit, to be filled with wisdom, and for God’s grace to be on them.
- You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 2:1
Paul wrote this reminder to Timothy. He was a companion to Paul and a messenger of the gospel as well. It is a reminder to our little one’s that they are to be strong in the grace Christ provides to them. Again, the theme is consistent throughout these three verses that our young men ought not be trained up to be tough or hard. Rather, they are to be trained up to be strong in the Lord! That is genuine strength.
I’d love to know which verse above is your favorite. What verses are hanging in your little one’s room? Are there still other Scripture verses you’d love to see me post? Share in the comments below!
